Stellar will shut down on December 31, 2026. The company's shareholders have decided it's time to wind down the business after six years of helping organizers sell tickets and stream live events.
Stellar is contacting each of its active organizers directly. This post lays out the same plan for everyone, including ticket buyers.
Stellar will wind down in a few steps between now and the end of the year:
How do organizers save their data? Organizers can download their customer and order data from their Stellar accounts. Step-by-step instructions are at documentation.stellartickets.com. This should be done well before December 31, because once Stellar shuts down, the data stored in Stellar can't be recovered. Stripe data won't be affected at all, so each organizer's full purchase history will still be there in their Stripe account.
Will organizers still get paid? Yes. Ticket revenue has always gone directly into each organizer's own Stripe account, and that hasn't changed. Payouts are handled by Stripe, not Stellar, so they'll continue on Stripe's usual schedule. On December 31 Stellar will disconnect from organizers' Stripe accounts, but the Stripe accounts themselves remain the organizers'.
What about events before December 24? Nothing changes for these. They'll stream as planned, and tickets already sold for them are unaffected.
What about events after December 24? They won't be able to stream on Stellar. Organizers with shows, series or packages that run past that date will need to decide how to handle them, whether that's moving them to another platform, rescheduling them earlier or refunding the affected tickets. Because organizers are the Merchant of Record, refunds go through their own Stripe accounts. For events that haven't sold any tickets yet, Stellar suggests taking them off sale now so no one buys in the meantime.
Will Stellar contact ticket buyers? No. Stellar only sends ticket buyers reminders about upcoming shows. It has never made decisions about organizers' customers or their purchases, and it won't start now. Buyers bought their tickets from the organizer, so communication and refund decisions belong to the organizer.
Where should organizers move their events? Stellar doesn't have a recommended replacement platform, and as a small team winding down, it isn't able to help with the move itself.
Tickets for shows on or before December 24. Nothing changes. These shows will stream as planned, and buyers will get the usual reminders from Stellar beforehand.
Tickets for shows after December 24. These shows won't be able to stream on Stellar. Tickets were bought from the event organizer, not from Stellar, so the organizer is the right contact for what happens next. Depending on the organizer, the show may move to another platform, be rescheduled or be refunded. Buyers who haven't heard from their organizer should reach out to them directly.
Refunds. Stellar can't issue refunds. Payments went straight to each organizer's own account, so Stellar doesn't hold buyers' money. The organizer can issue refunds.
Organizers can write to support@stellartickets.com any time through December 31. After that the address will stop working, so anything that needs an answer should be sent before then. Ticket buyers should contact the organizer of their event.
